Through different programs and pillars, we try to help our beneficiaries and thus be able to give them a hopeful future. As an organization, our focus today is on these programs, but that does not mean that we cannot contribute now or in the future in other (social) areas.
Scholarships & Educational Support
Access to education can transform an entire life — and that’s why it’s our top priority. Through our Scholarships Program, we provide vulnerable children in Uganda with the opportunity to attend school and build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
While the public school system may be accessible in theory, in practice many families simply cannot afford the associated costs: school fees, uniforms, books, meals, transportation, and sometimes even basic medical support. That’s where we come in.
We support children beyond the classroom. Every sponsored child receives holistic assistance, tailored to their situation. This can include not just education-related costs, but also help with daily meals, basic healthcare, medication, and hygiene. Because when a child is hungry or unwell, learning becomes impossible.
Thanks to our growing network of sponsors and monthly donors, we’re currently supporting 12 children (as of June 2025) — and we hope to expand this number steadily. Each scholarship is a promise: that education is not a privilege for the few, but a right for all.
We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and grow.
Skills Development: Football & Beyond
Education doesn’t only happen in a classroom. Our Skills Development Program complements formal learning by helping young people gain practical skills, explore their talents, and grow in confidence.
Our main focus today is on our local football academy — a safe and empowering environment where children and youth come together to train, learn, and develop life skills. Through sports, we teach discipline, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance — qualities that will benefit them far beyond the field.
We work with dedicated local coaches and provide children with access to proper equipment and regular training. Our academy is more than just a football project; it’s a community hub where children can be seen, valued, and supported.
In the long term, we aim to expand into other areas of skills development, such as arts, handcrafts, and digital skills — but for now, we are building a strong and stable foundation with football as the starting point.
By investing in both education and talent, we are helping the next generation become active, confident citizens — equipped not just to survive, but to lead.
Future Commitments
At Kalon Afrika, we dream big — but we’ve also learned the value of focus. While our current efforts are primarily dedicated to education and skills development, we recognize that communities thrive when a variety of needs are met together.
That’s why we remain deeply committed to growing into other areas in the near future:
- Health & Hygiene: Access to basic healthcare, clean water, hygiene education, and medication is essential for children to learn and live with dignity. While we already provide medical support for our scholarship students, we hope to expand this to more families in the community.
- Environmental Awareness: Climate challenges disproportionately affect vulnerable regions. We aim to launch small-scale projects like tree planting, clean-up drives, and waste education that promote sustainable habits and environmental protection.
- Community-Led Development: Every community knows its own needs best. By engaging directly with local leaders, youth, and caregivers, we hope to support grassroots initiatives that promote resilience, inclusion, and opportunity for all.
- Creative & Technical Skills: Arts, crafts, music, digital literacy — these too are powerful tools for empowerment. When time and resources allow, we look forward to supporting young people in exploring new paths beyond the traditional ones.
We don’t want to do everything at once — but we do want to do everything well. And by starting with education, we are planting the first seeds of change. With time, care, and continued support, we’ll watch those seeds grow into something bigger than ourselves.
